Are you interested in sex? Or are you attracted to a particular person?
If your best friend keeps telling you you’re horny, your hormones are raging, or you talk about sex all the time, your sex drive is at work. On the other hand, if you get butterflies in your stomach when you see a certain person you’re attracted to, that’s called desire.
There’s a big difference between sex drive and desire.
- Sex drive (or libido) reflects a general interest in sex: you think about it, you imagine doing it, or you do it, for example. The intensity of libido varies from one person to another, and many things can affect it, such as your personality, your environment, or a specific situation.
- Desire appears when you feel attracted to a particular person and you feel tension… sort of like if you bring 2 magnets close to each other without letting them touch. That invisible force is desire!
